Potty Talk

WARNING: This post is about personal bodily functions, if you are offended by references to these then please refrain from reading this post!
Liam has been Potty Training now for I think about 4 weeks. He has mastered peeing in the potty and rarely has an accident. However with that said he has yet to master having a bowel movement in the potty. He has been withholding his BM's and will go 2-3 days until his body finally can't help it and he does a BM in his undies. I have added the recommended 8 grams of fiber to his diet, increased his fluid intake and still he is constipated. We have researched this online and have done all that has been suggested and yet he is still withholding. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? I am a desperate momma who wants to help my son, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

McKay did kind of the same thing, only far more extreme... we went to the doctor and they prescribed Miralax (which is now over the counter... so you don't have to go see a doctor to go get it). It was the best thing we could have done. It is a flavorless powder that can be added to anything. We added it to his sippy cup, at about the same time everyday, and it worked miracles. No cramping, no holding it in for weeks (yes.... weeks...) and no drama when he went. Prior to that we were doing enemas when it had been so long since his last BM ... lots of drama with that. The Miralax was awesome. You can get Miralax anywhere now, which is awesome. Give me a call, I did tons of research on this whole thing.

Ruth had the same general problem when we were potty training her. She didn't seem to understand the whole pooping-in-the-potty concept. She never really got constipated but she would save it for days before letting it come out in her undies. After trying everything, we just decided to deal with it patiently and hopefully she'd grow out of it. FINALLY after about 8 months of accidents off and on she finally got it. Sometimes it takes time I guess. Potty training is a very long process, I've learned, but very rewarding.

I think this is pretty common. Savanna would hold it until night when we would put her in a pullup. For some reason, kids are afraid to go poo! I have no advice only to say that I'm sure he'll out grow it. I have no idea how they out grow it though! Good luck!!

I also have no advice. Caden did the same thing but only lasted a week! Then we celebrated big time the first time he made it. We still had problems, but we could pick up the signs and talk him into going. We also had him clean out his own undies when we knew he could make it to the toilet and he still put it off.
